Cool Penguin Facts

Second grade students are learning about penguins. These cool birds are fascinating creatures and come from the bitter cold land of Antarctica. The classes had fun reading about Antarctica and and learning about different types of penguins. Students also wrote facts after reading books about penguins. These funny birds bring smiles to our faces during these long cold winter days.

Our second graders are also spending time during our Snow Unit creating Haiku poems. A Haiku follows a pattern of five-seven-five syllables. The Haiku's were an excellent way to learn about writing poetry. The students made their Haiku poem about snow, the final draft was glued to a cute snow hat. It was a great time learning what our students really love about winter and snow. What wonderful poets we have in second grade!
